EPM are proud to announce the one and only Italian electronic maverick, Alexander Robotnick, who steps up to the plate for the fifth instalment of the EPM Podcast series. Following on from the Detroit Grand Pubahs’ Mysterious Mr. O, Detroit’s DJ Nasty, Motech man DJ 3000 and Mixtape’s Gus Brown’s podcasts we keep the dance flowing with a special festive mix to carry from Christmas until the new year. Once again Mr. Robotnick takes EPM’s digital catalogue straight to the heart of the floor as we see the likes of Savas Pascalidis, Tesla Boy, Kiko & Gino, Kid Massive, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Prok & Fitch, Marko Hopper and Max Durante get mashed up in the mix.
Alexander Robotnick (Alexander the worker in Russian) is the nickname that Maurizio Dami adopted in the early 80s when he started producing electronic music. In 1983 “Problèmes d’Amour”, a track he composed for Materiali Sonori/Fuzz Dance, an Italian Independent label, was an international hit and with time became a true “cult” of electronic dance music and a defining moment for Italian electronic music. In the late 80s and 90s Maurizio became involved with different music genres and gave up the nickname that had made him popular, producing literally hundreds of tracks over the period (see here for the discography http://www.robotnick.it/cd_vinyl.htm ( http://www.robotnick.it/cd_vinyl.htm )).
In 2002 Maurizio Dami, once again as Alexander Robotnick, became a DJ as well as continuing to produce music, taking his new inspiration from the contemporary electronic producers that he had initially inspired. Since 2003 Robotnick has been DJing and performing live in numerous clubs around the world playing both his old school tracks as well as the best of current electro-disco and electro-house.
In HEM, Robotnick’s label, released “Oh no…Robotnick! and since then he has been producing electronic music for several labels. In April 2009 This is Music LTD ( http://www.thisismusicltd.com/label/alexander-robotnick/ ) released “Obsession For The Disco Freaks”, a 12″ including remixes by David Carretta, Heavy Foot and Rory Philips. Last February Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky put together their personal analog synths to organise and perform an Analog Session. The idea was to recreate the purely analog sound of the 70s and early 80s which the two artists consider to be the true “electronic sound”. The DVD+CD will be released by This Is Music LTD in January 2010 and more recently a number of remixes by Robotnick such as “Stuck on Repeat” by Little Boots and “Dance Machine” by David Carretta have continued to confirm his legendary status.
So without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, Alexander Robotnick in the mix.

“Ce n’est q’un début”
Whilst many people are now making their final holiday plans and getting ready for the winter break, we’re still chipping away at the coal face of electronic music with a whole host of top new tackle ranging from techno to drum n bass, dupstep to electro, hip hop to house and leftfield to electronic as well as introducing Madrid’s P21 and Rome’s Soul Sound labels to the ever expanding roster.
The Republic of Desire continue to up the ante as both Photonz and Issakidis drop two new tech house bombs, House Café show why they are one of Spain’s most treasured house imprints with EPs from DJ Ino, Jesus Gonsev and Pablo Sanchez, Dublin Xpress continue their techno onslaught with Diarmaid O’Meara’s ‘Melodika’ and Justamine goes for a tech-house ‘walkabout’ on LDR.
Aroy Dee cries some house ‘Tears’ on Delsin’s M>O>S off shoot, T Polar drops some extra phat breaks on WIDE, Sybdrome deep houses things up on Sudup, Larix hits the techno dancefloor for Toyfriend and the house / pop juggernaut that is BIP drop a stunning 12 new EPs and set of remixes that see the likes of Agnes, Sam-Project, DJ Kicken, Stereo Touch, Scarlet, Elena and more make a charge for the top of the charts.
P21 is a project born out of Madrid with a great illusion and many feelings towards the electronic music of dance, without limits, without borders, with the only intention, to create a group of artists compromised with an illusion – to turn music into a real universal language. www.myspace.com/p21label ( http://www.myspace.com/p21label )
Soul Sound is born from the mind of the young dj/producer Karim alias Deep K.Soul Sound’s objective is to let the world hear its oldschool/house influenced by the minimal sound of the present. A sound that wants to make you dance but at the same time wants to recall feelings and atmospheres of old warehouse parties. A great project born to stay…constantly confronting the growth of it’s style and new collaborations. www.myspace.com/deepkdj ( http://www.myspace.com/deepkdj )

With over 500 new tracks and 7 new labels to announce we make a mad trolley dash of dance to the end of the year. Featuring new imprints Cesirias, The Keatchen, LFB, Radioactivity, Save Sound, Sticks & Stones and Triptik we journey from the deep minimal depths to crunching electro beats and pulversing hard dance sounds at the flick of a switch.
With Posthuman following up their recent release on B12 with a new EP on the ever reliable Uncharted Audio, Chrissy Murderbot dropping crisp new electro beats on WIDE, Hertzman continuing nutempo’s minimal rise to greatness and James Hammer flexing the old techno grey matter on London’s Mixtape Records we kick off we an impressive array of EP releases.
Datamine continues to show why he is one of the hottest names in techno right now on Rodz-Konez, E Musica showcasing new electronica talents such as Setrise, C-Rouge and Adrien Aubrun, Issakidis delivers the tech house goods on Republic of Desire with a stunning Midnight Mike remix and Dopefish Audio keep the electro-house flag flying high with a new EP from Egonoise.
Bonzai step up once more with a slew of new releases from the likes of Daniel Dee, Marko La Rocca, L.A.V.I., Sovve, DJ IVI-R and many more, Audio Boutique fire off a dub step salvo and Attic Music find themselves ‘walking in Kreuzberg’ whilst Big Big Soundz Fisio Feelkhenson jumps on board a housed up version of the ‘Orient Express’.
And of course, saving the best to last, we bring you an extra special festive treat with THE definitive version of ‘Last Christmas’ by your favourite techno-pop amphibian. Yes, ladies and gentleman it’s Crazy Frog!
Emerging from the London underground scene, Cesirias starts off with a various artist 4 track EP entitled ‘Trouserbeard’. The idea is to provide you with ‘Original Gross Beats’ on vinyl and digital formats to cater for all your audio needs. The concept of the label arose from the current confusion which occurs with the pigeonholing and separatism of musical genres, sub-genres and more. The influences of the label lie mainly in the areas of Techno, Hard Techno and Hardcore, but rather than being either one or the other, the music is presented as a mixture of these influences under the umbrella concept of ‘Original Gross Beats’. www.myspace.com/cesiriasrecords ( http://www.myspace.com/cesiriasrecords )
Recently, multi-talented electro artist Keatch (aka Diederik Van Lembergen) felt the urge to do something with the vast amount of fat, pumping electro beats being produced by a community of upcoming gifted music makers in Belgium. After an expedition in true Tintin-style, searching for and scouting talents in the remotest corners of far West and East Belgium, he decided to join hands with Skelt/USA Import and The Keatchen was born: A label for heavy, pounding, funky, salted, hot, not too serious, not impossible, 100 % uncut, non-treated ELECTRO.
LFB was meant to be a clicky minimal label and turned out to be a minimal dancefloor techno and techhouse imprint with tracks by producers like Loktibrada, Mark Broom, Yarda (Takaaki Itoh), Mizek (Christian Wunsch), HU, Monoide and DNC. www.lfb.sk ( http://www.lfb.sk/ )
Radioactivity is a hot new upstart label hailing from the electronic underground of the country that produced some of the scenes biggest names such as Umek. Our mission is clear, to put out quality, pumping tracks from fresh artists, aimed straight at the dance-floor. The label was founded by Girandon, an established name with over 30 releases on labels such ac Cubic Records, Ambiosphere and New-Era records. www.radioactivity.si ( http://www.radioactivity.si/ )
Save Sound Recordings presents a new departure point towards emotions and sensations in House music. And the ingredients seem to be right, changing the actual sound of House music with some new modern tunes, the support of some really good artists and a lot of commercial work to get the world to know that they exist, this new music concept can give the night a new face to present. www.myspace.com/savesoundrecordings ( http://www.myspace.com/savesoundrecordings )
Stick&Stones is the third label on the No Preset family, and the aim of this label is quite simple, to reach the same success as No Preset and Disolent already have. With the support of the best artists, with a lot of commercial work and last but not least with some really good music they aim to achieve this. Stick&Stones want to take current dance music and change it into something more vanguard, modern and something new. www.myspace.com/stickandstoneslabel ( http://www.myspace.com/stickandstoneslabel )
Triptik is all about providing essential electronic dance music. With plans to release an impressive genre-spanning selection of future underground anthems, they will put out a selection of distinctive bespoke releases each year by well known and up & coming talented producers and remixers, be reliable quality controllers in the ever increasing expanse of music now available digitally and promise to mix it up a little and keep things fresh by releasing all sorts of exclusive tracks, remixes and DJ tools. With early support and radio plays from the likes of Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Satoshi Tomiie, Mark Knight, Nick Warren, DJ Chloe, Jody Wisternoff, Slacker and DJ Paulette and future music set to come from the likes of Trafik, MOS, Dominic Plaza, Soundexile, Audionova, Tim Davison, Henry Saiz and Patch Park, TRIPTIK aims to be a recognised underground label for DJs, music lovers and collectors of amazing tunes worldwide. www.myspace.com/triptikmusic ( http://www.myspace.com/triptikmusic )

As we fast approach the end of an eventful 2009 we still have time to burn up the dancefloor a few more times before the new year bell tolls.
The Republic of Desire continue to step up their game as both George Issakidis and Midnight Mike drop new releases that show why they have become such revered figures on the electronic music scene. We also see an outstanding debut release from new Nottingham based label, Oeuvre as the likes of AntAcid, Sons of the Vagabondz, P45, Brokebust and Blunted State push genre conventions and embrace sonic experimentation after an intense 2008/09 of acclaimed releases across numerous labels which saw Ireland’s Diarmaid O’Meara branded at the beginning of 2009 as One to Watch by M8 magazine, featured in a myriad of music magazines including Notion and I-DJ, ezines, national and global radio stations, TV channels, numerous collaborations and a hectic gigging schedule, this techno album ‘Structured Noise’ on Gobsmacked is a long time coming but well worth the wait!
ARA continues to release stunning tech-house missiles on Para Disco and ‘Sofia City’ is no exception, Shunsuke Akimato delivers another minimal gem for the ever reliable nutempo, Subotika continue the Detroit techno mantra of Motech with new EP ‘Dance of Glory / Freedom’ and EML take on the Enemy Within with the sublime IDM / leftfield album ‘Flawed’.
Kuba house the night away on BIP, Thirry teams up with both Merayah and Cash on La Musique du Beau Monde, Isis delivers another slice of effortless tech house on All is One and Ladzinski takes us into the deep end on Boe Recordings 6th release.
Oeuvre was formed in Nottingham in 2008. The idea behind its inception was to create a label that pushes genre conventions and embraces sonic experimentation. Dance music can, and should be seen as a valid form of art and not just a base pleasure for the masses to get drunk to at the weekends. The listener is seen as an extended member of family and are treated thusly. Not ones to spoon-feed people ideas and emotions, Oeuvre want people to form their own opinions on their musical output and that of others, whatever that may be. Music should always be thought and discussion provoking because it can be anything to anybody, and not everyone thinks in the same way. Promoting and releasing thought provoking Electronica, genre defying Acid, dusty Trip Hop grooves, face banging Braindance and out from out where techno, you should expect big things that are slightly different. If embraced, you will not be disappointed. Sent from above to save modern music from becoming stale and predictable. www.oeuvremusic.com ( http://www.oeuvremusic.com/ )
Well Rounded was founded in Summer ‘09 by Brighton resident Ashley Marlowe (aka DJ Donga). Ashley has a long history in electronic dance and alternative rock music playing drums in bands signed to labels including Fat Cat and Duophonic and producing house and techno for labels owned by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Tiga, Woody McBride & Patrick Pulsinger to name a few. Lots of his projects in the nineties were heavily supported by the sadly missed John Peel.
Having always DJed, in 2005 Ashley started favouring the emerging dubstep sound. This lead to becoming a resident at Brighton’s longest established and biggest dubstep night, Dub Pressure. After noting the influence of Detroit techno and Berlin dub minimalism Ash started tracing the historical steps back in his sets through UK Garage to classic early US House and mixing this up with new UK Funky productions.
Here he discovered a similarity in taste with long-term friend Deadboy and selected 3 of his productions for a debut 12″ to launch a new label.
“U Cheated” (WRND001) has since been lauded as one of the strongest underground dance releases of the year with support from Jackmaster, Martyn, TRG, Oneman, Ramadanman, Brackles, Shortstuff & Ben UFO to name a few. It is also cited as being a defining release in the developing of the Future Garage and Tropical scenes. This 12″ sold out it’s 500 pressing in one week! Next up on the label is a 3 tracker by his own production unit Ultrasound produced in collaboration with Chris Butler & Chris Baker. They have just released a 140 bpm rootsy track on Dub Pressure’s Clandestine label (home to releases by Shackleton & Darkstar…). For Well Rounded however, they deliver their unique fusion of influences going back to original NY Garage & Chicago House re-routed via London 2009.
The label is tight-lipped about release no.3 but it’s set to be both a biggie and an exclusive. Well Rounded is committed to promoting immediate and DJ friendly club tracks that also display a soulful musical vibe.
