EPM PODCAST 04 – GUS BROWN (MIXTAPE RECORDS)
Following on from the Detroit Grand Pubahs’ Mysterious Mr. O, Detroit’s DJ Nasty and Motech man DJ 3000’s podcasts we keep the quality flying high as we welcome Mixtape’s Gus Brown to take up the baton of EPM’s podcast series. With a wonderfully building mix that takes in plenty of EPM’s digital catalogue and beyond we see the likes of Slam, DJ Assault, Joris Voorn, Marc Romboy, Konrad Black, James Ruskin, The Advent, Len Faki and The Detroit Grand Pubahs all bubble and froth into an effervescent techno and electro journey.
Gus’s releases have received support from some of the world’s greatest DJ’s and producers including Luke Slater, Dave Clarke, Paul Mac, Mark Broom, Technasia, Jon Rundell, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Trevor Rockcliffe, Rolando, Renato Cohen, and Chris Finke to name a few.
Techno first found Gus Brown at nights in the UK’s North West, the biggest influence at that time being BuggedOut! at the legendary Nation in Liverpool. Having previously spun progressive house in the clubs, techno began to have an increasing presence in Gus’s DJ sets and radio shows.
Back down in London, as well as DJing, Gus began to produce techno and in order to remain in complete control of output, set up Mixtape Records. Bringing together artists with like minded attitudes to techno in the UK, US and Europe, Mixtape has gained a strong reputation for an output of quality, straight up techno.
As well as the huge success of the label, The Mixtape hosted by Gus Brown and broadcast on SSR (tuff.ssradiouk.com) ( http://www.ssradiouk.com/ ) has received massive support from fans – stay tuned for special guests and exclusive tracks.

BLEEP43 CORSICA STUDIOS LONDON (ELEPHANT & CASTLE TUBE)
Friday 11th December 10pm – 6am £12 adv / £15 on the door / £9 with NUS www.corsicastudios.com www.bleep43.com
SURGEON (COUNTER BALANCE) DJ PETE (CHAIN REACTION/SCION) PATRICE SCOTT (SISTRUM) NEWWORLDAQUARIUM (DELSIN/NWAQ) ORPHAN (LIVE, BLEEP43) DAN BEAN (BLEEP43) TOBY FRITH (BLEEP43)
We’re hoping you can join us for another of our intimate parties celebrating electronic music at Corsica Studios in London. June’s party with Omar-S and Donato Dozzy was a spectacular success, and we’re keeping on the marathon DJ set tip with an all-night collaboration of techno between Surgeon and DJ Pete. To complement them in the other room we have deep house sourced with care by Detroit’s Patrice Scott and Newworldaquarium. There’s also time for Bleep43’s own Orphan playing live, and resident DJs Toby Frith and Dan Bean. Surgeon & DJ Pete They brought the house down for us in 2008, and we thought it rude not to invite them back again. During the 90’s Surgeon and DJ Pete were resident at Berlin’s legendary Tresor club, and would play back to back all night. Tony Child’s remit is to provide a journey that takes in all that is techno and beyond, touching upon industrial, synthpop, electro and much more, made all the more potent by the attention to detail in both his production and mixing. His position as Britain’s finest Techno producer and DJ is unquestioned. DJ Pete aka Pete Kuschnereit has been a central figure in the Berlin techno movement, recording as one half of Scion and his own Substance project, and DJing as a resident at Berlin’s current techno mecca, Berghain. http://www.dj-surgeon.com http://www.djpete.de http://www.scion.de Patrice Scott Continuing our run of Detroit DJs that has included DJ Stingray and Omar-S this year, Patrice Scott makes his Bleep43 debut for us. Patrice cut his teeth as a DJ back in the early 80’s, but has now come to the fore with the emergence of his label Sistrum, which specializes in deep techno. Lauded singles such as “Beyond Deep”, “Atmospheric Emotions” and “Excursions” provide proof that he is at the forefront of a new wave of cerebral, abstract dance music coming from the Motor City. http://www.myspace.com/patricescott Newworldaquarium Jochem Peteri’s idiosyncratic take on house music has won him many loyal fans over the years, and the Amsterdam producer returns to Bleep43 for a rare performance. Jochem has crafted some exquisite music since his debut in 1993, ranging from the fragmented abstraction of 154’s Strike to early releases on Stefan Robbers’ Eevolute label. However, it’s his NWAQ alias that has seem him most active, with a string of superb singles on Peacefrog and Delsin, plus his critically acclaimed “Dead Bears” LP on his own label in 2007. http://www.myspace.com/newworldaquarium Orphan Bea Brennan’s live project has been a regular at Bleep43 since 2003, and this will be her fifth outing, giving you another chance to check her melodic talents. http://www.myspace.com/orphantracks Friday 11th December @ Corsica Studios, Elephant Road, London, SE17 10 pm – 6 am Corsica Studios Tickets – £12 Adv (Buy here), £15 on the door, £9 with valid NUS Card Press enquiries – Jonas Stone @ EPM: jonas@epm-music.com / 020 8566 0200 Facebook link RA link
Welcoming two new labels in the shape of Palermo’s Frabon and Latvia’s Rockers we also fix up and look sharp with 200 new tracks of electronic nirvana.
Leading the singles charge from the front we have the unstoppable Vince Watson who’s Bio imprint lifts off once more with ‘A Very Different World’ backed by some sterling remixes from fellow Scot Funk D’Void. Mark Ambrose returns with his classy tech-house musings with the ‘Drums For Time’ EP on Crayon, Dopefish continues his remixes 2 mission with part 4 and Santonio digs up some tech-house Green Onions in Cyren’s tech-house salad bowl.
Dirt Crew continue their 5 year celebrations with the second EP to be lifted from their 5 Years compilation which sees Till von Sein, Yosa and Dekay & Elie Eidelmann putting up the bunting, DJ’s Omega and X-Change get their booty breaks sweat on as Database hits 70 and 71 and DJ Ino drops the laidback house grooves of his ‘Kids on Boogie’ album for House Café Music.
The ever-reliable Mullet Records deliver an album from Finnish wunderkind Baxter. This multi-talented musical maestro has played keyboards in a host of bands in-and-around his hometown of Helsinki. We think you’ll agree that Baxter’s sound has all the hallmarks of that Scandinavian electronic melody driven soul we all know and love. Think Röyksopp, think Erlend Øye, think Gus Gus with a twist of synth/pop and then it soon becomes apparent that we have an album of epic proportions on our hands, the minimal strands of Marta Kokon once more sound out from NBG and Hoodfellas deliver the street to the floor via the ‘Orient Express’ on Booty Breaks.
Frabon is a label devised with passion, love and energy from Palermo based Flavio and Francesca. With Frabon we want to transmit music with sounds from tech house, deep, house, funky and vocal! From big name artists they also give visibility to young talents. Their tracks have already been played by the likes of Laurent Garnier – Mathias Kaden – Brothers Vibe – Dario Zenker -Tim Green – Toni Rios – Martin Eyerer – Robert Dietz – Agaric – Alex Celler – Varoslav – Someone Else – P.Toile – UES – Dani Casarano and many more. www.myspace.com/frabonrecordings ( http://www.myspace.com/frabonrecordings )
DJ Andrey Emelyanov, co-founder of Minanimal, a label that has achieved #3 in Latvian Music Channel TOP 10 with its release of “Vaseline” has established his own label “Rockers”. Andrey had a number of radio shows that have been transmitted in Latvia. His guest mixes have been played on Proton radio, Frusky Radio, etc He has shared the stage with such DJs like Chus, Ceballos, Fatboy Slim, Sebastian Ingrosso, Sandy Riviera, Martin Solveig, Steve Mac, Meat Katie, Danny Howells and Timo Mass. www.myspace.com/rockersrecordings ( http://www.myspace.com/rockersrecordings )
