GET PHYSICAL 8 – MIXED BY THOMAS SCHUMACHER

ARTIST: VARIOUS
TITLE: GET PHYSICAL 8TH ANNIVERSARY COMPILATION MIXED BY: THOMAS SCHUMACHER FORMAT: CD
LABEL: GET PHYSICAL MUSIC CAT: GPMCD036
RELEASE DATE: 29 OCTOBER 2010
Get Physical’s 8th annual Anniversary Compilation represents the Berlin label’s dancefloor legacy and its bright future with 19 tracks, 7 of which are previously unreleased, from familiar names, old friends and fresh talent. With longtime DJ, producer and labelmate Thomas Schumacher at the helm, the compilation is guided by his expert hand through seamless mixes and astute selections.

Get Physical was born of friendship and a shared love of music, so it’s only fitting that the opener, “Buddies”, is a tribute to both. M.A.N.D.Y.’s Philipp Jung and Matthew Dear lit up 2010 in New York City, with their Buddies club night and – as M.A.N.D.E.A.R. – by crafting the hyped unreleased number “Buddies” that fused deep hypnotism with swirling hints of cosmic disco. Thomas segues this perfectly into the filtered loops and precipitous drops of Lee Curtiss’ “The Disco Dub”, and the early Chicago house stylings of Delete’s Kindisch release “Lunchbox”.

Andy Cato’s “Bassline Track” is a shot in the arm and a raise of the stakes, as the Groove Armada gentle giant shrugs off the shackles of calm, chilled grooves for mutated bass lanes and a full frontal sonic kick, which lays the spiky groundwork for the tweaked and reverbed proto-electro of Detroit upstart Kris Wadsworth with “It’s Time”.

Schumacher’s own loopy cut-up jam “You Got Me” slips sideways into “Make Me”, where Emerson Todd and Tim Green reveal a secret breakdown of free jazz, before its heavy drums descend into the deep tribal stomp of Steed Lord’s “You”. Thomas’ melodic electro house edit of his own Elektrochemie project blooms in rich, full colour, before the metallic tones of Booka Shade’s “In Space Remix” of their own “Teenage Spaceman” reveals the very best that their full-length masterpiece More! has to offer.

Shifting effortlessly from DJ to selector, Thomas then proceeds to cherry pick the best Get Physical moments for the morning after the night before. An emotional piano chord introduces Nôze in quirk balladeer mode, with a pop version of “Kitchen,” before the heartfelt, slowed-down electronic pop of Damian Lazarus’ “After Rave Delight.” Raz Ohara and the Odd Orchestra deliver stripped back soul that slowly builds into static and lush orchestration, while a meeting of mind sees DJ T.’s “Gorilla Hug” remixed by wunderkind Nicolas Jaar, for a treatment that gives a nod to vintage electro-funk grooves. Nôze make another cameo appearance with a rework from Matthias Kaden, which progresses from beat-boxed acapellas to Kaden’s trademark minimalistic latin house, while Lopazz’ affecting 2007 synth-laden track “Wasted Days” both proves yet again why he’s a treasured member of the GP family, and closes out the mix.

Patience is a virtue, however, as “Revolution” – the exclusive hidden track from M.A.N.D.Y. (a cooperation with Brooklyn´s hottest talent Adultnapper, just produced in New York this year) that constructs slow-burning deep tech house around a lone reverbed guitar – brings the compilation and the story of GP full circle to back to its start: friendship, body music and special dancefloor moments.

[LEP012] Michael L Penman – Greasy / Plastic Love EP | FEEDBACK [2]

We introduced him as Robin on our 1st Anniversary release “1 Year Of Leporelo” and now he is back as Barka with his solo EP. His Barka EP contains 3 unique sounding tracks Itchy Pitchy, Wobble and Mental Jujitsu by this Swedish producer. Dry, groovy, melancholic, “full of something” and still clear, that’s how see Barka’s music. Scottish Michael L Penman, introduced on “Soul Of Brazil Vol. 1″, brings more techno sound to this ep and his “F****d ^ Remix” of Itchy Pitchy fits perfect for the variety sounds of this ep.

EPM and Spanish music store Phonomonkey are joining forces once more to bring you a special party during this year’s Sonar Music Festival in Barcelona. On June 17 at Nitsa Club we will be celebrating the launch of Robert Hood’s new artist album ‘Omega’ released 21 June on his own M-Plant label. The album is based on the 1971 classic science fiction film, ‘The Omega Man’ starring Charlton Heston and derived from Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel ‘I Am Legend’ (which was recently re-adapted to the big screen). This album’s concept is a long-held vision of Hood’s and the film’s stimulus has presented itself both musically here, and even spiritually for him, since he watched it as a child.

On the night Robert will be playing a rare combined DJ and live set with special visuals made for the album, showcasing unreleased M-Plant material, alongside new album ‘Omega’ with further DJ support from Beardman’s Mark Broom and Motech’s DJ 3000 plus a live show from those fine purveyors of funk-fuelled electronics, Detroit Grand Pubahs (Detelefunk) who also celebrate the release of their new single ‘Numb, Deaf and Dumb’. You can check out the video preview here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9TXQdX35lw while you wait for the Pubahs next album to be unleashed later in the year. All DJs and acts will be playing exclusively at this party during Sonar.

‘Omega’ is released 21st June on M-Plant. ‘Numb Deaf & Dumb’ is released 2 July on Detelefunk.

After months and months in Stockholm, Sweden’s Consulate Studio, Socket Science finally returns with a sophomore release on Astor Bell. Ephedra is an EP consisting of three long, dark and slow yet club friendly tracks. More techno than the slightly pop oriented predecessor, but still drenched in those gorgeous little melodies that we’ve learnt to expect.

Carrying moments of both feelgood and itchy discomfort, this release grasps to cover a wide variety of emotions. Interpret it freely, just make sure you get that beat going.

[image: ASTOR013] http://astorbell.com/?release=ephedra

*Socket Science – Ephedra* *Cat. No:* ASTOR013 *Release Date:* 2010-05-24 *Tracklist:* 1. Ephedra 2. A Friend of the Family 3. Silent Fight

Compared to the more playful debut, *Socket Science* slows things down on the follow up *Ephedra*. Three dark, distorted and long jams that focus on the lower frequencies yet remain true to the core idea, being Robot Music with Soul.

It’s easy to envision lined up drones doing their monotonic labour in dirty factories. However, these pieces of music also carry the reverberation of their children playing on the school yard across the street, as well as the moans and squeaks of the community elders in need of an oil tin refreshment. Everyone’s invited, everyone plays a part.

And not to forget; all these influences and emotions are packed upon a quite steady and bouncy beat. Do your club a favor and spin it.

Read all about it, listen and download here. For free as always.

After several months of hard work Kill Minimal finally releases his first LP on Madberlin Label, the only place where this dream could come true.

10 tracks with his own characteristic sound, full of melodic lines and cold dark landscapes which will take you to those places where your mind is not used to be.

“Hier Rein, Da Raus” (Here in the inside, there in the outside) is the album that explains how Kill Minimal has picked up and transformed his reality in a musical collection which would be released in online stores and limited edition of CDs available in his own website.

Kill Minimal’s past releases has been supported by artists such as Richie Hawtin (Minus/Plus 8), Marc Antona (Plus 8/Highgrade), Xpansul (Plus8/Ovum) or Marcus James (Reinaissance).

- Out May 6th -

Andrew Phillpott (Depeche Mode), Glen Brady (The Glass, Plant Music, Awesome Agency) and Daryl Bamonte (Depeche Mode, The Cure) formed their own label in Berlin in 2009 to release Phillpott’s and Brady’s music, as well as that of other artists they’ve come into contact with on their travels.  We Collect Enemies is a record label but it’s also a belief in themselves, their history and the artists around them.

For their second release, We Collect Enemies introduce their first signing, Broad Bean Band…

Broad Bean Band was created on an organic farm in West Cork, Ireland. Stemming from a fascination for vintage analogue synthesis, gameboys and biodynamic vegetable growth.  This lunar musical project finally came together after a 6 month stint in Berlin.  The biological process involved is a mish-mash of cosy technology and a true love of melody.  ‘OkiDoki’ is Broad Bean Band’s first release on We Collect Enemies and our favourite farmers take us through an old school arcade via their quest for multi-player game cheats.  The video (directed by Alvin Lovelycat) witnesses Broad Bean Band in action battling themselves for control of the vegetable patch and dodging flying shovels.

If you are interested in featuring the video on your website, as an exclusive prior to it’s YouTube launch, please reply to Addy@epm-music.com to request the preview link.

Off Purpose

Artist: Testube Title: Off Purpose Release Date: May 17, 2010 Label: Glim Records Cat. No. : GLIM-00501-1005-OFF ****************************************************** media image: http://testube.info/testube-off-purpose.jpg ******************************************************

Glim Records is pleased to announce the return of Testube in 2010. With an anticipated release date of May 17th, Jeff Danos presents ‘Off Purpose’ – his first full length release since ‘Corporation’ in 2003. Continuing where the 2008 “Covert” EP left off, this new release further explores the eclectic fringes of electronic genre mutation that Testube is known for. By fusing glitchy chaotic percussion, dramatic textural displays, anti-pop melody and the occasional old school groove, ‘Off Purpose’ promises to deliver a little bit of something for everyone, and a lot for the discerning few. Jonathan Chalker, of the dark electro-pop act LowHero.DLL, also contributes vocals and lyrics to what is arguably the catchiest track on the album – “Lost and Found”.

‘Off Purpose’ will first be sold as a limited boutique CDr with special hand-printed arigato jacket and trigger ejector case. Download sales will follow shortly thereafter. In closing, here’s a sneak peak at the unintentional, yet somehow refined sounds of Testube’s ‘Off Purpose’:
